Are you hungry? Then sit down!

June 28, 2018 - Drawing from the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 in John 6, Chris Mensah-Awah, our guest speaker and wonderful emcee for the past few months, explained that each challenge in life we face comes “with its own grass to sit on.”

The people were hungry – and that hungry crowd must have been a cranky crowd! Far away from any village and likely in a hot day, the people were yearning for food. And what was Jesus’ commandment to them? “Sit down.” His command was not to leave for an hour lunch break, but to sit down.

Five thousand men (not counting the women and children) were asked to sit in groups. Sit down? We are hungry now, they were likely thinking. How is sitting down going to feed us?

As we know from the story, Jesus took the five loaves of bread and two fish and, through a miracle of God, fed all who were sitting down – and fed so well that there were several baskets full of leftovers!

Chris, visiting from Ghana asked us at INCW, “Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat? Then sit down.”

“Each challenge comes with its own grass to sit in,” he said, drawing from the passage in John. “Sitting down on the grass tells the Lord, ‘I surrender.’”

Are you “hungry” for clarity or guidance in this crazy life? Waiting for an answer to a difficult decision, or how to navigate out of a challenging situation?

Sit down, and wait. The Lord will feed you, and with leftovers to spare.

Play the video below for an excerpt of Chris' message.

Chris will soon be returning to his wife and two daughters in Ghana. He has finished a degree in transportation and logistics while on scholarship to Wrocław.

We will miss you, Chris!
